School Games

School games update.

As a school we have been participating in the local School Games competitions for just over a year. The School Games is funded by Sport England and delivered by School Games Organisers (SGOs) at a local level to create an annual calendar of competitions and festivals for children.

We sent out letters last term asking for information regarding your child and any sports clubs they attend. Please do update us on any new clubs your child attends so we can update our information. This helps to inform us when choosing children to take part. Some of the competitions ask for little or no experience and some need previous or current experience. Also don’t forget to continue to send in your child being active at home to update our display board.

Each term a range of competitions are on offer, which we have to sign up for. However, this is a first come first serve basis so we do not always have the opportunity to compete in all the competitions on offer. Therefore, some terms we may attend more than others. Also, some terms the competitions are based on gymnastics and others on athletics or tennis. There is a wide range of competitions offered throughout the year to years 1-6. If your child register’s an interest and are chosen you will be sent a letter. We keep note of who attends competitions each term trying to ensure all children interested are able to take part when possible, next time, if they don’t go the first time.

School Games provides children with the opportunity to have fun, learn, and achieve personal bests, while experiencing sports they may not have had a go at before. Children also learn a sense of belonging and pride as they represent their school. They are celebrated in our school celebration assembly and in the newsletters. There is a strong emphasis on inclusion at School Games events to ensure all children are given the opportunity to take part, whether they have previous experience or not.

Participants are encouraged to follow the School Games values: determination, honesty, passion, respect, self-belief, and teamwork.

Now we would like to apply for the school games mark. The School Games Mark is a government-led awards scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress. There are various levels you can apply for bronze, silver or gold. You may begin to see the school games logo on upcoming letters as we begin the progress of applying for the award. We are very excited to celebrate the wonderful PE opportunities children are already offered at Keep Hatch and to compete and represent the school now more often. More information about the school games mark can be found following the above link.

We look forward to continuing to attend as many competitions as we can with the children and keeping you updated on our school games mark progress.

Any questions please send an email to the office and we will do our best to answer them.
