General Data Protection Regulation
On 25 May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect throughout the EU. It is a new law that is being implemented in exactly the same way in all EU countries to create a constant set of rules to that ensure all data held and processed by organisations within the EU is secure and processed lawfully.
Public organisations and schools are required to comply with GDPR. At Keep Hatch Primary School, we have:
- made everyone on the staff and governing body aware
- created a GDPR readiness working party including SLT, the school’s DPO, ICT support and a governor
- trained all staff
- explored how we can monitor data protection in our school
We already had strong Data Protection policies and protections but these are now updated so that they are in line with GDPR.
We are working on our practice to ensure that GDPR is central to our day-to-day culture. We already highly value and protect all of our pupil, parent and staff data and will continue to do so in the presence of GDPR.
As a parent/carer you may receive some letters from us regarding GDPR. Some of those may be about consent and some about updating your information with us. Please do read, and, if necessary, sign and return, everything you receive.
If you have any queries, please contact our Data Protection Officer (dpo@keephatch.wokingham.sch.uk).
