Geography
At Keep Hatch Primary School our vision is to provide pupils with a geography curriculum that inspires them with a curiosity and fascination about the world; its people and their place in it. Our aim is for pupils to develop their identity as citizens of the world – understanding their place in our world community and equipping them to engage with and understand current issues such as climate change.
We want pupils to build a comprehensive knowledge base: a knowledge of places, people, resources and environments; an understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes and a knowledge of how the Earth’s features are shaped, interconnected and change over time.
We believe children are active participants and investigators within geography and value fieldwork as an essential part of the curriculum allowing them to explore, make connections and comparisons and identify patterns and changes.
Geographical inquiry and skills are embedded throughout teaching to ensure skills are transferable and progressive. Our curriculum allows our children to gain a greater understanding of the wider world through the use of primary sources such as fieldwork and secondary sources such as digital and physical maps, atlases, globes photographs and books.
Ultimately, we want to equip children with the skills to be Geographers: to develop an awareness of the wider world and their place within it, encourage them to take an active role in protecting the environment and work with others to make our planet more peaceful, sustainable and fairer.
